A feminine act - as I painted

Today I would like to show you my last  painting. This is a feminine act, without a title.

-No title-

I am very happy with it, so I would like to write to you about how I made it.

First, I sketched the composition on a primed board. Then it was toned with the cadmium yellow. I shaded the figure with cobalt violet and titanium white. It gave almost monochromatic painting.

I started to change the skin color. I toned the skin with a raw umber and a small amount of green gold and Indian yellow.
I think that these colors create a nice contrast because they are their own compliments. The umber layer (yellow) placed on the cobalt violet creates a nice skin color - warm and soft.
The hand is almost violet because I wanted the figure to unite with space.
If you use umber or another yellow on the violet layer you can level the contrast and make the skin looks natural and interesting.

The background was painted with mineral violet, umber and Indian yellow which gave a neutral effect and made that the more contrasting figure moved forward.

I will write about the use of compliments in a separate post. From time to time, I will present to you my favourite working techniques of course, with more pictures.
